My name is Lucy, and I am a collage/mixed media artist focused on large scale and miniature hand cut paper collages.  I came to visual arts in my early 30s, but prior to that my academics, and professional experiences were always focused on the stage, as a theatre artist. 

Collage and theatre making are in so many ways, one in the same. For the artist, both require the repurposing of already realized people, objects, ideas, colors and textures into something different, with a different story. For the audience, both require the act of suspending disbelief in order for the trick to work. After decades of practice, this process of breaking down and rebuilding, (on and off stage) has become how I now find peace. When I am feeling small, I will crank out a collage that makes me feel large. When I feel adrift, I will collage myself a boat. When there are too many tasks left half finished, I build a barren planet and blast off. When I cannot stop thinking about some unassailable woman from history, (like Queen Amanirenas of Kush) my mind will not be still until I can create an homage.
